The International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples was observed in Bangladesh along with the rest of the world. An event was held at the Central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka recognizing the day and Danish Ambassador Ms Hanne Fugl Eskjær was a guest speaker at the event. During her speech, the Ambassador reiterated the Danish Government’s support to indigenous people’s rights all over the world and mentioned it is a priority in Danish development cooperation in Bangladesh.
The theme of this year’s day was ‘Bridging the gap: implementing the rights of indigenous people’. The event included a colourful cultural programme by the indigenous men and women reflecting the rich diversity of the indigenous communities.
