On May 15, 2014 US-DK Green Energy (BD) - a joint venture between companies from Denmark, USA and Bangladesh - signed a deal with the Bangladesh Power Development Board to set up a 60 MW wind turbine power plant in Cox’s Bazar. The wind power turbine will be the first of its kind in the coastal region of Bangladesh and the technology is provided by the Danish company Vestas.
The Danish Ambassador, Ms Hanne Fugl Eskjær, attended the signing ceremony at Biddut Bhaban in Dhaka along with Energy Adviser Dr. Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury and Mr. Nasrul Hamid, State Minister for power, energy and mineral resources. In recent years foreign investors and Bangladesh government invests on renewable or green energy. Its not only a fuel free power producing process , also helpful for reduction of environmental pollution. Other sources of power production like gas, coal or nuclear energy are harmful for human health and causes environmental damages, destroys trees and animals. So the renewable energy sources are environment friendly.
At the ceremony, the Danish Ambassador expressed her hope that the implementation of the wind power plant will show the way for other large scale wind and renewable energy projects in Bangladesh to reduce the environmental impact.
